That's a good question! I can't listen to music with vocals when writing, but I find instrumetnal music helps me get in the zone and mood of whatever I'm working on. So I'll listen to contemporary classical music (like Ludovico Einaudi, Lambert, Nils Frahm) or post-rock (like Explosions In The Sky, This Will Destroy You, Brontide, Yndi Halda).
Then when I'm working on the colours, inks, laying everything out etc, music with vocals helps keep me in the zone.
But you're right, music can also be distracting. I also listen to the instrumental music when I'm editing too.
I have never tried writing with music. Doesn't it distract you from thinking?

I love instrumental music too, I listen to it when reading, it helps my mind not drift.
I will try to listen to it when writing. Thanks 👍🏿.
A recommendation for instrumental music for when you are writing powerful scenes, pachbel Canon D.
